All right, no WMD's found, now what? Should we just stand up & leave? The current Iraqi government asks not to.

Had the oil been the reason we could have easily got it in 1991 yet did not. Besides, had it really been for the oil it would have been much easier and less painful to just bribe Saddam and his entourage like some UN officials did.

There are many countries whose governments are anti-American, like Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Belarus, to name a few. As much as we would prefer to see someone else in power, this is those peoples' choice and there is no war there.

Had it not been for Iraq, US-haters would have certainly found some other reason to blame America for. This has been the case for years and years, especially in Russia. They have the right to think this way; they, unfortunately, exert a considerable influence here, yet I am all for their right to say what they think.

I certainly regret the deaths that inevitably come with any war; my heart goes out to them, especially to our military; yet where were all those human rights defenders when many many more people were killed and tortured in Iraq under the previous regime?

Да там антиамериканские режимы, но что-то я не наблюдаю ни Белоруссии ни Перу ни Мексики в списках стран крупных экспортеров нефти. Так почему же штаты решили бороться за права людей именно в тех странах, где по счастливой случайности есть нефть?

Вы не только хотели бы видеть другую власть в этих странах. Делаете и сделаете все возможное, чтобы это произошло. Чтобы очередной маленький кусочек планеты превратился в вашу плантацию. Пока вы еще прикрываетесь правами человека, и не нападаете без предлога. Нужен повод - ядерное оружие, либо не демократический режим. Вы - я говорю о правительстве. Но, похоже, ты себя с ним ассоциируешь.

Wow, wow, wow, they are NOT pro-American, they are definitely not; in fact, we'd rather have someone other than the current Prime Minister during the last election; yet this is exactly the point that we do not interfere in their internal affairs. Meanwhile, the only people calling for immediate withdrawal that I am aware of are the terror groups there & leftists here.

There was a "Food for Oil" UN program; it was later discovered that many UN official were bribing Saddam government figures under the auspices of this program.
The point I was making that had it really been for oil there would have been much easier ways to get control over it.

Sounds like US is the source of evil for you no matter what.

I think that this is a great country, not perfect yet great nevertheless. As for the Iraq war, there are lots of arguments for it & lots of them against it. I think US made mistakes since it started (and who does not make such mistakes? There were lots of them during World War II and many more casualties back then); the history will tell whether it was worth doing or not. I do not associate myself with any Government and Iraq war is not the only thing in my life. Even if in my opinion it was all wrong to start this war (which it is not) it would not change my perception of this place. There are other great things. The Government is not one of them, by the way, yet I think it is much more responsive to us the people here than, say, in Russia or in whole bunch of other countries.

Didn't UN have a number of resolutions? Didn't Saddam block inspectors form doing their work and finally expelled them? Yes, he was bluffing at that time but who knew he was?

To me, the history will tell whether it was right or wrong.

А как это должно выглядеть?

Когда желание и возможности вести агрессивную игру есть много у кого (Китай, Индия, Пакистан, Россия), но активные боевые действия по всему миру, точнее в данный момент только в отдаленных от своих границ странах, ведет только США.

Разве это не есть умышленное расшатывание и без того крайне нестабильной обстановки в мире.
