I do not know much about it either; I can only recall that the socialist government had the country on the verge of collapse before the coup; I also know that the junta's economic advisors got their education in USA which does not necessarily mean that US was involved in the coup. If I got my education in Russia and become a government figure it does not mean that Russia is behind me.

Had Putin's rating translate into real life improvement for ordinary people, I would care less. You wrote yourself earlier that it is very hard to get a good life in Russia. To me, any government's goal first & foremost is to improve the life of the fellow citizens. Foreign policy is not as important. The current government and the current president in Russia talks the talk but does not walk the walk.

You may not agree, and there is a whole bunch of people here that does not, so let it be. Although I like Bush as a person, I'd rather have someone other than him as a president but definitely not John Kerry nor Hillary Clinton nor John Edwards. I'd rather have, say, Hunter, or Tancredo, or Gingrich. By the way, Bush had better marks in college that Kerry, who was in the same college at about the same time.
